Gingerbread man

Once upon a time, there was a little girl who really loved baking. One day she decided to bake a special bread. She named her baking the “gingerbread man”. After baking, she started to decorate him with food colours, raisins, adding buttons… As she was doing that the Gingerbread man jumped out of the pan & started running away. The girl ran after him but couldn’t catch him. As he was running away, the gingerbread man was saying, “Run, run, as fast as you can. You can’t catch me. I’m the gingerbread man.” The gingerbread man disappeared & the girl couldn’t find him anymore.

The girl went home sad & despaired knowing that the best bake she has ever done was no more & there was no any other baking she could ever make that could match the beauty & creativity of the gingerbread man. One day as the girl was walking down the streets of her town, she passed by a bakery and as she was peeping through windows to see the products, that she also liked making, she saw her gingerbread man! There he was strapped to well decorated box, ready for sale, smiling back unto her.

The girl was so happy. She directly went to the counter & told the owner of the bakery, “I want my gingerbread man, he’s there at the window.” The man replied, “He costs just 10 cents.” The girl said, “You don’t understand, that gingerbread man is mine! I made him.” “No, it’s you who doesn’t understand, he is ours & he costs 10 cents.” The girl was  so disappointed & she went home very sad, sobbing. After much thinking, she broke her much cherished tin-bank, withdrew the only 10 cents she had saved & went back to the bakery & put the coins at the counter & said, “Now I want my gingerbread man.” The attendant took the money went to the window & gave girl her gingerbread man.

There was no happy day the girl like that day. She went home saying to the gingerbread man, “Now, you are surely mine. First of all I made you and now I have bought you.”

What’s the lesson?

God created us, but due to our waywardness,  influence of the evil one & things of this world, we went, or rather, ran away from Him. But in His Mercy & Grace He brought down His most Cherished  & Only Son to die for us & our sins. He acted as an atonement for our iniquities. John 3:16 (NKJV) says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God made us but Satan took us hostage. God saw we were lost but wanted to take us back & so He had to give a ransom. Therefore He went into His bank, took His most precious entity, His son Jesus Christ & bought us back! If you believe Christ died for your sins God has already bought you & there is no way you will taste the second death (like being eaten as a snack in case of the gingerbread man). If you doesn’t believe & thus doesn’t take the obligation to follow (obey) the commands of God through His son Jesus Christ, you are like a gingerbread man in the shop rejecting an offer to be bought back unto your creator, who promises you a safe, warm house with everything you need. You are like a gingerbread man waiting for a hungry passerby (Hell) to buy you as a snack & put you to down the empty stomach, maybe without even a drink! Waiting to be put to the ever-painful second death. A total separation from the Father, you imagine that?

But God has a chance for you. He has given out His best to purchase you back. He says in Isaiah 43:1 “Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.

My dear reader, just allow Him to redeem you through Jesus Christ. Remember the girl was happy that no one could devour her gingerbread man as a snack. God wants to protect you from the awaiting doom & destruction.  Allow Him to take you back and He will gladly say “Now, you are surely mine. First of all I made you and now I bought you.” And you will forever be blessed.
